HILTON BRISBANE - SWIMMING POOL REPLACEMENT

The Hilton Hotel Brisbane was built about 35 years ago and the swimming pool was leaking and needed to be replaced.

Problems: the hotel had to keep operating, so demolition noise was a problem, the pool was on the eighth floor of the hotel and overlooked the Queen Street pedestrian shopping mall. Access could only be gained via a car park that served the shopping centre below the hotel, or from a vacant site in Adelaide Street.

To keep the noise down and to speed up construction, the tile finished, reinforced concrete existing pool was replaced with a pre-finished stainless-steel prefabricated pool.  The day after the new base slab for the pool was poured, the pool walls, gutters etc began setting out for erection and were completed in two weeks.  That would not have been possible if reinforced concrete walls, formwork, concrete pouring, stripping, waterproofing, tiling and grouting had been required as for traditional poolconstruction.
