MASS TRANSIT RAILWAY CORPORATION


In 1979 I was recruited in Melbourne by the MTRC to work on the Tsuen Wan extension of Hong Kong's MTRC. The section that I worked on was Tai Wo Hau station. The station wasthe only open-cut station to be constructed on this extension of the underground railway. The tunnels from the station towards Tsuen Wan were constructed under compressed air, the other tunnels towards Kai Hing were rock bored. The section was known as Contract 305, see circled in green on the LINE DIAGRAM, CONTRACT SECTIONS PLAN MAP and PROFILE diagram below.

The open cut railway station, the reinforcement cage is the massive concrete base slab of the station.
